Meet the Artist,
Hi, my name is Grace Adam! I am an award-winning painter based in Newberg, Oregon.
I am an oil painter, but also have a deep appreciation for ceramics, mixed media and illustration. Oil painting necessitates a kind of patience, a method which often reflects the narrative of my subjects. I experiment with the medium in a painterly quality while lending enough clarity to forms and shadows to deliver the message or image.
Much of my body of work echoes Henry David Thoreau's sentiment, “As if you could kill time without injuring eternity”. My reactionary oil painting threads together the narratives of time and memory lost to technology, the harms of social media, and topics of the Christian faith. As a firsthand witness to these topics, I converse with my own experience and with those of great thinkers and theologians. Theologian Søren Kierkegaard’s For Self-Examination and the painter Rembrandt inspired the use of my own likeness in the work. I engage with art as a mirror by inserting herself into the narrative. In doing this I leave space for any future observer to have the courage to see themselves in the story.
My current studio work will continue exploration and research of aforementioned themes with the addition of entertainment, ai, and faith elements. I am branching my ceramics and illustration practice towards purchasable products that offer utility and ‘whimsy’.
